Greek Yogurt

So,  I was watching The Biggest Loser the other day (I'm a huge addict) and they had one of their infamous commercial spots during the episode for Greek yogurt. I'm a pretty big Activia nut, 1. because of the probiotics (or friendly bacteria)and 2.  I imagine if I eat enough of it I will transform into Jamie Lee Curtis.....

It seems like this Greek yogurt is becoming more and more popular. I was at Whole Foods the other day, saw it on the shelf and decided to give it a whirl.

I don't think Greek yogurt is for everyone, its a much denser consistency then regular yogurt. My roommate tried it and hated it, but I really like it.  It's definitely more like a thick custard than a yogurt.  What you do have to be aware of is the THE LABEL!!! I'm sure you'll hear me rant a lot about labels and how good marketing can fool almost anyone, but the proof is in the pudding.  Or in this case the yogurt.

I bought two differentt brands of Greek Yogurt.

Chobani and Voskos

I figured all yogurt must be good so I didn't look at the nutrition label until I got home. What a MISTAKE!!!! Now these are single serving yogurts, so you're supposed to eat it in one sitting and this is what I found.

Significant difference in nutrition! I won't be buying Voskos brand anymore.  (however, I did eat it because I despise wasting food). I really do enjoy my Chobani brand now,  I think it actually tastes better than Voskos anyway. I look foward to being your future nutritional guniea pig!  Yours truly......

  1. Greek Yogurt is huge here. When they can afford it(its like quadruple price here) everyone buys it. I like the taste, i like the honey one the most(chobani is the only option here), but I dont like it enough to pay more for it more often then as a treat.

  2. I usually pay $1.00-1.49 per container, but because the serving is larger than a regular cup of yogurt, I treat it more like a small lunch or mid-night snack. That helps to make the cost seem reasonable. They have some really good recipe's on their site that I'm gonna try out. I'll let you know if they are actually good or not.
